Why Indeed?

Why is democracy losing out to dictatorships?

Who believes the opposition when they claim that we’re in a dictatorship for the last five years under Rodrigo Duterte?

Not too many really except for their ilk. The opposition has lost their ability to use adjectives properly. For example, Rodrigo Duterte is a dictator. Ping Lacson is a fascist. Basis you ask? Not much really. Duterte is such because he admires Apo Lakay. Lacson is a fascist because he started out his career with the Metrocom Intelligence and Security Group. The chief implementer of martial law, Fidel Ramos, is neither a dictator or fascist even if the Philippine Constabulary was the lead AFP service command responsible for the enforcement of martial rule.

The greater majority of the Filipino people don’t believe the opposition claims. Surveys bear this out. Duterte remains popular while Marcos and Daughterte lead voter preference for President and Vice-President.

The truth is staring the opposition in the face but they refuse to acknowledge it.

The opposition is allied with leftist-militant groups, which are basically communist fronts. Why don’t these and the party-list groups want to admit that they’re part of the Communist Party of the Philippines?

Both are against the candidacy of Bongbong Marcos but in 2010, when Manny Villar ran for President, his Senatorial slate included Bongbong Marcos, Satur Ocampo and Liza Masa. Strange bedfellows don’t you think? The son of the dictator on the same side of the political fence with those who wanted his father ousted and still has the goal of overthrowing the duly-elected government.

The bottomline is “freedom and democracy” don’t have much achievements to show as opposed to strongman rule. It doesn’t help that Marcos has been vilified to the point that he is embedded in the Filipino pscyche. The opposition still won’t stop and they fail to realize that instead of stopping Marcos from winning the Presidency, they’re only making him more popular and appealing because Filipinos have a natural predilection for the underdog.

The opposition is sure to lose again come May 2022. It’s only a question of by how many votes this time. Their repudiation began in 2016. Without any substantial change in their brand of politics and leadership, they appeal only to to their diehard base, the elite who think of the Marcos, Arroyo, Duterte and Estrada alliance as the dregs of society.

Pragmatic politics dictate that there are no permanent enemies, but only permanent interests. We, the people, are on the losing side of equation, because we only get to settle for the lesser or the least evil.

In this case, even if the opposition is identified with the Catholic Church, they seem to be the personification of Satan on earth what with their long list of misdeeds and malfeasances.
