The Unhinged Heydarian

Here he goes again…The political analyst with the ghost writer whose columns are, more often enough, filled with more quotes from the books he has read than actual thought-provoking out-of-the box ideas which would make him more credible with the public, as a public intellectual.

Marcos and Duterte: Undeclared rivals

Unfortunately, Javad always fails at this because he is nothing more than a mouthpiece for the opposition so he always ends up with the good versus evil narrative in his columns. In this case, he blames Duterte for the loopholes in the 1987 Constitution and the Omnibus Election Code. Clearly, the latter is within the domain of the Legislative to amend. But as is the case with our legislators, most of them have no foresight so the amendment only comes after the loophole has been exposed. This is why there is no rush about it. It’s also why there is no enabling law for the anti-dynasty provision in the Constitution and why we have no divorce in the country up to now.

Is it a mockery if it is within the bounds of the law? I don’t think so. Perhaps Javad is just pissed because the opposition suffers from the lack of brilliant minds who are able to think strategically. Thus far, the opposition’s out-of-the-box idea is to dump the Liberal Party and the Yellow Ribbon and replace with the independent label and a Pink Ribbon. So much for creativity and imagination, or the lack thereof.

The narrative again is the House of Marcos and the House of Duterte against the Opposition. Evil versus Good. Anything more than that? Nope. That’s it. You’ll notice how Leni Robredo has no platform other than Kalayaan sa Covid which is what the government has been doing since the creation of the IATF. The national action plan is actually in its third iteration. The opposition still finds pandemic response lacking, never mind that we have successfully contained the Delta-induced surge.

In my case, I’d venture to say that the public is not without options. If the public is tired of the antics of the Opposition and the Administration, there is Lacson-Sotto. No drama. No antics. A complete Senatorial slate, no placeholders, the first to declare their candidacies, strictly following their campaign playbook of running an issues-based campaign and a combined eigthy-plus years of public service with the track record and experience to boot.

The election is not a done deal by any means at this point. The campaign period hasn’t even begun and the other candidates haven’t even finalized their platforms. The Marcos-Duterte ticket doesn’t even have a Senatorial slate. The opposition has borrowed from Lacson-Sotto. The same is true with Pac-Man. Isko’s campaign is faltering despite the initial hype and the presence of Lito Banayo and Serge Osmena.

Objectively, take out the personality politics and other variables, Lacson-Sotto is the tandem with the platform which addresses the hot-button issues of the Filipino. But there is still enough time until the debate series commences. The complexion of the race will change after that.

It’s wishful thinking on Javad’s part that the split in the administration ranks only works best for the opposition. Of course not.

Hindi naman makakain yung pagpili sa iyo ni Leni araw-araw gaya ng pangako niya.
