The Lugaw Revolution

Leni Robredo: A movement is born

Just when you think it can’t get any worse, it does.

I’m referring to the Dilawans or Pinklawans or Kakampinks or whatever it is they call themselves now. Richard Heydarian now wants the public to believe that there is now enough momentum of support to label Leni Robredo’s campaign as a movement.

Yeah right.

I’m not a misogynist. We’ve had two women Presidents. America has had none yet. Heydarian wants to make it three but what is the compelling argument for Leni Robredo as President?

Nada. Zip. Zilch. Zero.

We can’t even see any signs of her being an economist or a lawyer, which were her primary and secondary courses, for her undegraduate and post-graduate studies. Her bio claims that she worked as a human rights lawyer in Naga but this is in contrast with her oral history where she justifies her failing the bar exam as due to her having to attend to her children while studying law and eventually for the bar.

As an economist from UP, one would expect that she could come up with an economic recovery platform since she has been Vice-President for five years but none is forthcoming. Her governance platform isn’t cogent. The first is Kalayaan sa Covid. Now it’s Hanap-Buhay para sa lahat which again is all motherhood statements and no specific plans of action to address the needs of Filipinos going into the Covid is endemic phase of the pandemic.

Looking at the above, it’s fairly obvious that no review was made by what the economic managers of the Duterte administration as been implemented. This should be used as the basis for continuity moving forward, to be modified accordingly, instead of starting from scratch again.

It’s easy to say that you will pass an Unemployment Insurance Act into law but there is no mention about where the funding will come from. As it is, the government has been borrowing to plug the budget deficit. Shouldn’t have this been the priority in formulating an economic recovery platform?

Heydarian’s claim there is a “movement” for Robredo is surreal. This is actually par for the course when it comes to the #kakampinks. Robredo’s campaign is more like a roving fiesta where the staple is lugaw. There is much fanfare and gimmickry and very little substance. That’s like diluted lugaw, extended to feed more than offer sustenance. This best describes her performance as Vice-President. Mostly form. Very little substance.

It has also been one PR nightmare after another for Leni. First was that stupid hadouken and kame wave anime Tiktok video. This was followed by the lugaw packets given by a “supporter” which was supposed to feed children who were left back home by their parents who attended a Robredo event. Really? Who are they fooling? One remembers Pugo saying “lokohin mo ang lelang mo!!!” The defining moment was the cartoon depicting Leni as Marie Antoinette with the pronouncement “Let Them Eat Lugaw!!!”

It doesn’t help that Robredo is barely articulate when she speaks, even in Taglish. This shouldn’t be the case as she is a UP alumna and a lawyer to boot. Surely if her claim of lawyering were true, then she would have the requisite court room experience where one needs to be articulate when arguing before a judge. This is why the critical thinking public think more of Robredo as a fool than one who is capable of becoming President.

Heydarian still believes that Robredo can muster enough support to win as President come May 2022. How can this be when Bongbong Marcos holds a double-digit lead against her in the latest survey?

The Pahayag surveys have noted that Robredo’s support is primarily from the ABC economic classes and not the D & E, which she claims as her constituency. Should this trend continue, the only way she has a fighting chance is if Marcos is disqualified but this still doesn’t guarantee a victory for her.

Marcos voters will not vote for Robredo to begin with. More than likely it will be a toss-up between Sen. Ping Lacson and Isko Moreno. But come the debate series, both Robredo and Moreno would be exposed as largely unqualified for the Presidency. It would be safe to say that the trend would be to vote for Ping Lacson, who is still the best qualified candidate, both on paper and in terms of experience.

Where is the movement that Heydarian is talking about come from? More than likely from their collective imagination.

The #kakampinks will never admit to Robredo being a fraud but that she is; both as a politician and an individual. Robredo obviously believes in the fake-it-until-you-make-it principle. She is always more form than substance. She “won” fraudulently in 2016 and that has been exposed now given Marcos’ commanding lead over her and her inability to “lead” the opposition.

In the end, she is nothing but watered down lugaw.
