2022: Robredo vs Marcos Jr. 2.0?
No surprises here. When I first read Heydarian’s articles in the Huffington Post, I was in awe. The writing was superb. Specially that long article about why the Philippines was still in an economic rut after Marcos was ousted in 1986.
But when I heard Heydarian speak after he became the resident analyst of GMA-7, I noticed the disconnect. Normally, an individual’s writing style mimics his speech patterns because the two are linked. When there are inconsistencies, and the articles published doesn’t match the speech and thought patterns, you can be sure there’s a ghostwriter involved.
Apparently, Heydarian is without a ghostwriter anymore which is why his analysis sucks. Big-time. It has become outright propaganda and pandering to his principals when he should be serving the public, as a public intellectual. This is too much to expect of him seeing as how he’s employed by Albert Del Rosario. This also means he’s not patriotic because he is not objective in his analysis of both the opposition and the administration.
The latest survey has Marcos with a double-digit lead over Robredo. Yet, Heydarian’s fearless forecast is it will Round 2 between the 2016 protagonists. The public expects more from Leni Robredo after five years as Vice-President. She may be able to draw support from the ABC economic brackets in the highly-urbanized areas but the bulk of the voters are from the DE, the laylayan she claims to represent and serve. Her service to the laylayan is mostly lip service. It just comes out of her mouth.
The Office of the Vice-President, under her stewardship, has become at trading office for supporters whose companies would like to promote their products under the cover of CSR – corporate social responsibility. Her flagship platform is Kalayan sa Covid. It’s not like the normalization and reopening of the economy is still out of reach. Despite the pandemic response not being perfect, the IATF-EID has been successful for the most part. We weathered the Delta-induced surge without going through what India and Indonesia did before us.
What is stupid is up to now, Robredo and her campaign manager, Bam Aquino, still haven’t figured out why Marcos is still ahead of her in the surveys despite his “defeat” in 2016. Mainstream media doesn’t ask Robredo the question as to where is the voting base which propelled her to “victory” against Marcos in 2016 and why hasn’t she been able to build on that with her “succesful” programs under the OVP.
Logically, these benchmarks is proof that she didn’t actually “win” in 2016 and confirms that there was fraud in the conduct of the count by Smartmatic. Andy Bautista, the Aquino appointed Comelec Chair, is in US exile. You will never hear Robredo mention his name and media, which is on her side, won’t ask her this question either.
But then again, neither has the administration exerted any effort to charge Bautista and have him extradited. Up to today, nothing has come out the cases filed against him by his wife, Patricia. This may serve to confirm that the administration had no plans to support Marcos in his expected Presidential bid despite his commitment not to run against the personal choice of the President, who was widely expected to be Daughterte. But let’s not digress from the issue.
Leni Robredo doesn’t have an Eskimo’s chance in hell of winning the Presidency on May 2022. Not even by longshot, Hail Mary pass or a miracle. Not even if Marcos suddenly passes away. Not even if Sara Duterte does also or withdraws for whatever reason.
Robredo’s campaign since October 8 has been marked by nothing but gimmickry. At a crucial time in the country’s history, the image that Bam Aquino is ramming down voter’s throats is she is the Mother of the country. That’s a frigging tough sell. Only her diehards are buying into it.
What’s certain is there are going to many memorials to her impending defeat on May 2022 at the rate murals are being painted on blank walls.
Even if the President himself is going after Marcos to promote SBG’s candidacy, Robredo will still not benefit. Robredo is nothing but a female Mar Roxas.
That’s a fact.
