If you believe @hotmanila, Alan Robles’ Twitter handle, Leni Robredo did a “masterstroke” with her rebranding herself and the the Liberal Party into the “Kakampinks.” The opposition has been behaving oddly of late. This has been the case since their slate was flushed down the toilet in the 2019 midterm election by the combined administration candidates. Grace Poe and Nancy Binay survived that onslaught but they ran under their own party’s to avoid defeat.
Most political observers, at least those who are sane, are wondering why the opposition refuses to come down from their ivory towers and out of their silos, if only to be in touch with reality. Their echo chambers resonate with their own voices and they indulge in circle-jerking most of the time.
The literal definition of circle-jerking is “mutual masturbation among three or more persons.” In the opposition’s context, this is their having intellectual INTERCOURSE within their circle only. Think of it as an incestuous orgy. As such, they can only hear themselves and none of the reality that’s taking place before their very eyes.
Since October 8, when Robredo finally made her much expected announcement that she was running for President, it has been one gimmick after the other, focused on the color Pink. Of course, it helped that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and most hospitals and other institutions showed their solidarity by having anything and something pink on their buildings. Leave it to the crafty and devious Pinklawans to claim that these groups were supporting them, even if they were not.
Bam Aquino didn’t run for Senator to be the campaign manager. This was the usual role of his father, Paul, in the past, during the “struggle” against the Marcos dictatorship. Aquino is employing the same old strategy for Robredo’s campaign. He’s trying to turn it into a “movement” which hopefully, would gather mass momentum. You have Robles touting how Robredo has moved up to second place behind Marcos in voter preference without mentioning how she’s buried under a double-digit lead.
Still they persist. Turning lugaw into the symbol of her campaign isn’t anything new. Leni Lugaw started off as pejorative in 2016 and persists to today. GMA did the same with Gloria Labandera in 2004. This is part of Bam’s “mass movement” strategy. Lugaw is healthy and nourishing with the correct ingredients but noticeably missing is Robredo’s governance platform, which should be at the core of Lugawnomics. Nothing doing.
On October 8, she likened the Philippines to a battered woman suffering from Stockholm syndrome. Then she announced her “Kalayaan sa Covid” program. This, at a time when the goverment’s much criticized pandemic response successfully held back the Delta-induced surge last June through September. Leave it to Leni to continue beating on a nearly dead horse as an election issue because the opposition continues with its insistence that government failed the people during the pandemic. It was an all-Leni show which saved the day, never mind that her office just served as a conduit for donations and all its pandemic-focused projects were for the improvement of her image.
If you think this is bad, Bam actually much worse. A TikTok video was released showing Robredo doing anime moves. This had the public laughing their asses off. As if the first of the series wasn’t bad enough, Aquino probably has Robredo as a circus performer in his mind, as a visual contortionist. More than likely, Bam was an anime fan growing up so she had his principal doing a hadouken and kame hame hair flip. It was hilarious!!!

What this all proves is just how low Robredo and the opposition regard voters because they think they can be won over by gimmicks instead of cogent governance platforms. This is why Robredo still hasn’t found the “voter base” which “won” her the “Vice-Presidency.” Instead of being for the “laylayan” as she claims, Robredo actually represents the elite among the ABC crowd where she has strongest support. These are the “disentes” who label the masa as “bobotantes.”
It doesn’t help Robredo’s cause when she has yes men like Trillanes around her who adds on to the stupidity by refusing to call it out as such. I don’t think Trillanes is aware that there’s no such thing as breaking the algorithm. If there was then we wouldn’t be at the mercy of Google and the social media platforms.
The opposition continues to be an aggrupation of dumb-assed morons. The maxim of the campaign being a marathon as opposed to a sprint doesn’t apply to them because the length of time between now and May 2022 only means there will be more of the same stupidity from Bam and the rest of the idiots he has on his campaign team.
But at the very least, they provide comic relief. At least they’re good for something.
